What is a domain name?

A domain name is the readable address of a website, also known as a web address. The name consists of a unique name and an extension. An example of a domain name is: www.servermeister.nl. A domain name was invented to quickly reach the desired location on the internet (e.g. a website). A name is actually followed by a numerical address (the so-called IP address). Because this is difficult to remember, the domain name was invented. You can only use a domain name if you register it with a hosting provider. This is possible at ServerMeister. You can only register a name if it does not already exist. After registration, the name is fully owned by you.
