Quarantine, also known as a redemtion period, means isolation and is a period of time during which a domain name is held after it has been cancelled by the owner. The period is observed by the registry so that the owner always has a reflection period whether he wants to register the name again. When the domain name has the status of quarantine, only the administrative domain name holder can reactivate the domain name by registration. Depending on the domain name extension, each domain name has its own quarantine period. For example, a .nl domain name is quarantined for 40 days and a .com for 35 days. After this period, the domain name becomes available for registration for any party.
